Calgon TAKE ME AWAY!!!!

Ohhhh it's been one of those days! Anybody got some Calgon? No, well how about a stiff drink? That might just do the trick, too. Let's just say, there's no denying why my blog got it's name after today...man the screaming. The baby has been in a tizzy today for some reason. Nothing has seemed to please him. Thankfully he's sleeping now (but he's sleeping NEXT to me, so I'm really not getting any relief).

And don't even get me started on the rest of the household day...I need a BREAK! Any takers? LOL!

This Is For All Of the Homeschoolers

I got this in my email today. I found it quite funny (well, most of it), so I thought I'd share it here for all of my homeschooling bloggy pals! So, enjoy!

You Might Be a Homeschooler If....

You come to school in your PJ's. (oh yeah baby...love it)

Your biology lab consists of assisting in your sibling's birth. (ummm...don't think so)

Your stacks of books to check out is taller than the librarian.

Your PE comes from chasing little toddlers around. (AMEN!!!! I just wish it helped me get thin, too!)

Your school bus is a 9 passenger van.

You consider school work after lunch to be cruel and unusual punishment.

Your father has ever told the check-out lady at Wal-mart, "We're on a field trip."

Your social life is viewed by some to be one rung lower than that of a Benedictine monk.

Your teacher has ever written your report card on a napkin. (Not yet...who knows though)

You have to move dirty laundry off your desk before your can start school.

The signatures on your diploma all end with the same last name.

Everyone else in the world is referred to as "Non-homies."

Your Mother's wardrobe consists primarily of denim jumpers. (I'll have you know that I do not own ANY jumpers. Now, back when I first started teaching, you betcha I did. I was your typical teacher...apples and all).

Your first real date is on your honeymoon. (I hope not)

The word 'homework' sounds like a foreign language.

Your yearbook is also your babybook.

A snow day means that you shovel the driveway after you finish your school work.

You enjoy the pastime of watching public school kids walk home from school.

You have to look at the clock to see if you can call your public school friends yet.

You think that public-school-kid is an insult of the highest degree. (I don't think this by the way...I was a public-school-kid and so was Brian. It's just our choice to homeschool the boys).

Health class consists of eating breakfast. (LOL!)

You have to decide what year you want to graduate.

You are always late but just call it "homeschooler time." (We're quite punctual thank you very much)

You can remember nearly every single day you went to public school.

The teacher can kiss the principal, and no one thinks it's unusual. (Oh...this is my favorite perk. LOL!)

You get to school and the teacher asks you if you've done all your chores.

You are one of the best people in the world! :)

Okay, now all you public/private schoolers...don't hate. Be nice. It's all good!

You Don't Look Familiar...

Well, I seriously wonder where my son pulls these things from? He's the silliest little boy, and he is always coming up with something new. You know...kids say the darndest things. Well, he is surely one of them!

Okay, here's the story: I'm a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom for those that don't know the lingo), and I'll admit. I tend to just dress a bit frumpy and dumpy if I'm not going anywhere. And since I'm on my last pair of contacts, I've been wearing my glasses a lot around the house. Now, said glasses are soooo old ancient. Seriously, they're probably about 6 years old, and I know I've gotten older my eyes have changed since I bought them. But -- I still wear them. I mean, they are hideous. They're so beat up and crooked that I will only wear them in front of my family and my friend Laura. Laura and I seriously don't care what we look like around each other...heck, we'll hang out at each other's houses in our pajamas...we don't care. LOL!

Anyway, here's how the conversation went last night:

Caleb: "Mommy, take those glasses off."
Me: "Why?"
Caleb: "You don't look familiar."
Me: "I don't look what?"
Caleb: "You don't look familiar."
Me: "Then what do I look like?"
Caleb: "You look crazy!"

Well, sorry son...that has nothing to do with the glasses! :) I probably am a bit crazy! Oh there's never a dull moment in our house...so, are you getting why I gave my blog it's silly title? LOL!

Homeschool Week 29 in Review

Another week at Childress Academy has come and gone. Here's how this week panned out:

Beginnings: Our theme for the week was America the Beautiful. We talked about Hawaii (oh how we would love to visit one day), Alaska (mommy would love for the rest of the family to enjoy it like she did), caverns, and the Statue of Liberty. We learned about "nk" and "ng" sounds. We added "-ing", "-ank", and "-ink" to our list of word families. We discussed the number of syllables in words as well. Our new service word for the week was "of." The book this week was Camp Out.

Math: We finished up our chapter on subtraction, and we reviewed some of the other skills we've learned (fractions, ordinal position).

Bible: We continued to discuss First Catechism questions 29-31. Caleb has done really well with memorizing these. They are a bit harder than the first set he learned. Our Bible verse for the week was 1 John 5:3a. We were really excited about this verse because Caleb could read every word in it except for "obey" and "commands." It's truly amazing that our little guy is reading. We're so proud of him!

Thanks for following our homeschool adventures, and be sure to join us next week as we have a grammer review!

So, everyone over at Sited and Blogged has decided that February shall be Blog Luv Month. Well, let's do something about it! You can go visit Sited and Blogged, grab the button, and add it to your sidebar. Then, commit to make POSITIVE comments throughout the month of February. Simple, right? Then what are you waiting for...get over there, now!!!!! Let's spread the love!!!!!

Be Sure To Check That Homework...

Oh.my.stars!!!! I got this email today, and it cracked me up! Maybe for this one reason, I'm glad Caleb doesn't go to public/private school. There's no telling what he'd be drawing for the teacher. LOL! Come on...crack a laugh with me!

(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot. From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith

Don't you just LOVE kids? They are the greatest! Enjoy!
And -- wow...check out all the comments I'm getting on the giveaway post. Thank you all so much for spreading the word! Keep it up!

R2D2...aka Wall-E

Brian bought Caleb the Lego Star Wars for the Wii. Caleb is all into Legos these days, and what better way to play (read destroy) them than with the Wii Lego games. He also has the Legos Indiana Jones. He LOVES to play them, and if we'd let him...well, he'd play them all day non-stop.

Anyway, ever since he saw R2D2, well, he calls him"Wall-E." Brian and I keep telling him over and over that it's not Wall-E, but R2D2. It must go in one ear and out the other, because he's not getting it. I mean...they don't look anything alike, do they? Oh well, he can call him "Wall-E" I guess. Maybe it's just easier to say...after all, it is only 2 syllables vs the 4 in R2D2. Who knows...kids are just silly like that (well, mine are anyway).

***200th POST GIVEAWAY***

Okay everyone...I did it! I reached a bloggy milestone...200 posts! WOWEE!!!! Can you believe it? I can...I run my mouth as much in bloggy land as I do in real life. LOL! Oh well, I gotta talk to someone (or thing I guess).

So, in honor of my 200th post, I'm hosting a FANTABULOUS giveaway! It includes some of my favorite things and some fabulous ETSY finds!

Here's what you have the chance of winning:

Two cuuuuute magnetic note pads -- Who doesn't love these? And -- aren't these just the cutest? I fell in love with them, so I picked up some for my winner and for moi!

Bamboo Specialty Cooking Set from The Pampered Chef -- I LOVE these. Most of you don't know, but I sold TPC for 2 years, and I have sooooo many of their things. I cannot cook a meal without using at least one of my bamboo utensils. I love them! You will, too!

Set of microfiber towels from The Pampered Chef -- These towels are soooo useful and helpful in the kitchen. If you have kiddos like mine (or a hubby), then you will love them when you have to clean up spills. They soak up soooo much liquid. And -- they're great for dusting, too!

Tattersall Towel Set from The Pampered Chef -- Ever since I started selling TPC (and now that I don't), I will not use any other towels in my kitchen. They have the best kitchen towels in my opinion, and they are worth every penny! And the colors are awesome...so bright and cheery!

Twixit! Clip Combo Pack from The Pampered Chef --These little clips are so useful in the kitchen (and the rest of the house for that matter). I even try to remember to bring some when we go on vacation because we always end up opening some sort of bag. I use them in the pantry and in the freezer...they're awesome!

Your choice of a camera strap cover ($18.50 max) from Shaelynn's Etsy shop --

These camera strap covers are soooo neat, and I thought that the winner should have one. So, I'm gonna let you choose your choice (again, $18.50 max).

Your choice of a cuuuute key fob from Sandee at Sew Much Detail --

Sandee has been gracious enough to let you choose which key fob you want from her Etsy shop. So, a big thanks to Sandee!

Your choice of either the Diamonds and Pearls (pinks) OR Black & White Damask scrabble tile pendant from HomeStudio -- Stef has been gracious enough to send you one of these two gorgeous pendants AND a snake chain. Thank you Stef...you ROCK!

Petal Pop Pocket Mirror from HomeStudio2 -- Stef has agreed to send the winner this darling pocket mirror from their new Etsy shop. Isn't it just tooo cuuuute? I LOVE it! Again, thanks Stef -- you truly ROCK!

Okay, okay...stop drooling now. That's all you get! LOL! Aren't those some cooool prizes? I think they are, and I cannot wait to see who will win!

Here's how to enter my 200th post giveaway:

***Please note...you must comment for each entry. For example -- if you get 3 entries for doing something, then leave 3 comments letting me know you did that particular thing. This is required because I will be using Random Integer Generator to determine the winner. So, if you don't leave me the comments, it won't count or help you. I will disable comment approval for this contest. That should make it easier on you and me. So, follow the rules. Thanks!***

1. Leave me a comment on this post for 1 entry.

2. Visit Shaelynn's Etsy shop HERE and let me know which camera strap cover you like for 1 entry.

3. Visit Sandee's Etsy shop HERE and let me know which key fob you like for 1 entry.

4. Visit HomeStudio's Etsy shop HERE and let me know which tile you'd choose if you had a choice for 1 entry.

5. Visit HomeStudio2's Etsy shop HERE and let me know which pocket mirror you like the best for 1 entry.

6. Post about AND link to my giveaway on your blog for 2 entries.

7. Grab my button and put it in your sidebar for 3 entries (I promise to grab your button, too). If you already have it on your blog, go ahead and post your 3 comments telling me so.

8. Join my fan club (follow me, I'll follow you) for 4 entries. No, you can't follow me privately...if you do, I'll never know, and you won't get credit. Sorry...you gotta admit you know me and like me for this one. LOL! Go ahead and comment 4 times if you already follow me!

WOW! That's a total of 14 entries per person! My comment box is going to be on overdrive I think. Oh well, you all are super worth it! I appreciate all of my readers, and this is just my way of saying "thank you" and for celebrating a bloggy milestone for my family!

Now, since there are soooo many fabulous prizes, let's make this even sweeter! If I reach 100 followers (wow...yikes!), then I'll choose two winners. The first winner will get the magnetic notepads and the items from The Pampered Chef. The second winner will get the Etsy items. I think that's fair both prize-wise and monetarily speaking.

So, spread the word so that TWO lucky winners can be chosen! Tell your mom, your dad, your spouse, your best friend, your neighbor...heck tell your dog if he/she has a blog. LOL! And -- be sure that I have a way of contacting you (ie - email addy, blog profile, something).

Now -- get busy and start commenting. Remember to comment for EACH entry (I should see 14 comments if you do everything...make sense). The contest will end on Friday, February 6th, at 1:00pm EST!

Joining the Ranks of the Soccer Moms

Well, it looks like I'm going to be "joining the ranks of the soccer moms". You see, we just signed Caleb up to play Upward soccer at a church here in town. This will be our first time in organizational sports. Well, not really...he did play bowling for a year, but I don't necessarily consider that an "organizational" sport. He just played with other kiddos his age...not against any one.

I'm really hoping that his little competitive spirit (the "I HAVE to win" mentality) can handle it. I really think it will do him good. He tends to get angry if he doesn't win or play his best (who can blame him...don't we all get that way), but we're really trying to instill that it's a love for the game that really matters. Yeah, yeah...we want his team to win just as much as the other parents do...I'm not going to lie. LOL! But -- truly, we have to break him sometimes, so I think this may help...we'll see!

And -- for all of you who think homeschoolers aren't social, well this will be a social outlet for him. So, there...he is social...just not in a public school setting. Okay, okay...I'll stop! LOL! (I'm not bashing public schools...I was once a public school teacher. It's just our choice to homeschool, that's all). So, smile people! :)

Anyway, look forward to some "soccer" posts once the season starts. Practice starts the day of Micah's first birthday party, so we'll see how that works out. So, stay tuned...

Let's Talk About Valentine's...

Okay, most of you know that I homeschool Caleb. Well, with that comes some perks. You see...every year about this time, all the little school kiddos get their sheets of paper sent home with a list of all the classmate's names on it. Then, we, as parents, have to do the right thing and go buy some Valentine's card to send in. Not to mention that if you want to be a super cool mommy that you'll also pick up some candy to pack with the cards. So, you end up spending more money.

Well, in my humble opinion, I think this is just a tedious task. I mean...what are we all doing with those little Valentine's once the holiday is over and done? Do you keep them? Do you file them away in your child's scrapbook? Oh wait...most of us have moved on to digital scrapbooking, so do you take a picture and upload it to the book? Hmmm...didn't think so.

Don't get me wrong...I did it, too, for the past 3 years while Caleb was in preschool. But -- I am soooo glad that I don't have to fool with that this year. It's just one of the many things I LOVE about my homeschooling job!

No, I'm not a grinch or a bah humbug type of gal. Brian and I just aren't of the "let's celebrate Valentine's Day so we can share our undying love for one another" type. We share our love for each other every day...we don't need Valentine's Day to do that. Okay, enough from me...now don't go bashing me and all. I was just sharing my $.02 with ya! You know I love all of you, and I'll probably tell ya so on Valentine's Day! LOL!

P.S. -- we are really close to that 200th post giveaway...yippee!!!! Be on the lookout!

Sherrie Needs...

While dropping on fellow Entrecard users last night, I saw Melissa over at Life with Two do this, and I thought I'd try it to see if I could get a laugh. Well, I got a laugh, but I can't post all of them because after clicking on some...well, there's a little girl named "Sherrie" that needs adopting. I had to click it because at first I thought it was some kind of animal needing a home. After clicking, I didn't think her "needs" were funny, so I'll avoid posting those. Anyway, you go to google and do a search using "your name needs". You have to use the quotation marks, or it won't work. So, go do it, and let me know if you do. I'd love to drop by and see what "you need". LOL! Oh -- I did it for Brian, too, and his had me laughing so hard. LOL!

Anyway, here's what I need:

Sherrie needs our help mamas (yeah...I could use all the help I can get).

Sherrie needs your vote (I didn't know I was in an election...mind telling me what I'm running for).

Sherrie needs serenity (yeah...I think that would do the trick).

Sherrie needs some counseling/therapy to help her get over the end of her marriage and various other problems (hmmm...I don't think my hubby knows about this...lol...JUST KIDDING, it came from google people).

Now it's your turn. Be sure to leave me a comment if you do this so I can drop by to read yours! Get a laugh for me!

Menu Plan Monday -- Week of January 26th, 2009

We did fairly well with keeping to our menu last week. The only day we skipped was last night, and that's only because we didn't make it to the grocery store before supper. And -- I had no hamburger meat. So, the spaghetti will be moved to another week. If you want to see more menu plans, then head here. There's over 400 participants I think, so you're sure to find something that you'll like. I know I've already copied/pasted some recipes that I can't wait to try. So, go check it out!

Here's our plan for the week:

Monday -- Teriyaki Chicken, Stir-fry veggies, Jasmine Rice
Tuesday -- Pomegranate Chipotle Pork Tenderloin, Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Veggies
Wednesday -- Leftovers
Thursday -- Tacos, Mexican Rice
Friday -- Shrimp Scampi, Rice w/veggies
Saturday -- Leftovers
Sunday -- Homemade Stuffed Crust Pizza

So, there you have it. We're trying to eat healthier, so that's why our veggies aren't that interesting. LOL! And -- I'm always happy to share any recipes I have with you...all you have to do is ask! Happy cooking!

Micah no-no

Micah is getting to the age where we need to start enforcing the word "no." So, we try (read we try, but it doesn't work...lol). With this said, he's picked up the "no" by shaking his head. Again, he doesn't quite understand what it means, and this video will prove it. Watch and enjoy! Don't forget to laugh.

Micah the Pig

I've been trying to post this video for some time now, but the volume on my laptop is quite finicky. So, today it decided to work, so here's the video.

You see -- Micah turns into a pig lots of the time. I'm not referring to his diet...I'm referring to his grunting and snorting. It's quite hilarious, and we were able to catch him in the act while eating breakfast last week. So, enjoy and get a laugh!

Have You Tried This????

Okay, I normally don't post about what we eat around here, but let me tell you. I cooked this Jennie-O Applewood Smoked Turkey Breast Tenderloin for supper, and it was sooooo tasty! And -- it's super healthy for you, too!

You see...I want to watch what I eat, and I want to eat healthy. But -- I cannot eat the same meat day after day. I like variety, so Brian and I have been trying to find some new things to eat. He picked this up, and we will definitely make it a regular at the Childress House.
I paired it with a Sweet Potato Souffle and Steamed Broccoli. Yummy! So, go on out to your local grocer and pick you up one! I don't think you'll regret it! Enjoy!

Homeschool Week 28 in Review

Here's how our last week of homeschooling panned out:

Beginnings: Our theme for the week was Taking the Gospel. We talked about missionaries and Spain. We learned (well kinda reviewed) some Spanish numbers and colors. The "th" and "wh" blends were added to our list. The "-ath" family was added to our list of word families. "Bible" and "have" were added to our service words. Our story for the week was The Bibles.

Math: We started a new chapter on subtraction. Caleb is really doing well with it, and we also started learning how to count by 5's to 50. He's slowly getting that concept down.

Bible: We added questions 29-31 to our First Catechism study. Our Bible verse for the week was I John 3:4a.

Extra Stuff: Caleb was able to spend some time shooting his bow and arrow. He also got to go fishing with daddy and Uncle Daniel. He had a good time, and caught his first fish. But -- it was smaller than his lure, so I don't think it counts. LOL! He still had fun!

Thanks for following our adventures at Childress Academy. Look for more exciting times next week.

If You Haven't Already Heard...please visit...

Please join in the many, many people that are praying for Baby Harper. Her family even asks that we pray for ALL the babies in NICU! So, go visit the blog, read the story, and begin your fervent prayers...they are truly needed. Thanks!

I've Been Tagged...

I have been tagged by Lydia over at On the Verge...Madwoman and Mother of Four. I found her blog through Entrecard, and I enjoy dropping over there to see her latest posts. She's very funny and witty.

Ok, so this tag is supposed to be 8 random things about me. Hmmm...8 things. I will do my best. Here goes:

1. I change my hair a LOT! I think I change it just about every time I go to get a new cut. You see...I keep my hair short, and I get bored easily, so I like change.

2. Brian, my hubby, would love for me to have red hair like Sharon Osbourne (spelling?). Now, I don't think I can pull that red off, but we're going to go redder the next color appointment.

3. Brian and I met over the Internet. I know...gasp. LOL! No, we caught some slack from it, and I lost some very close friends because of the whole ordeal. But -- that's another post for another day.

4. Brian and I became engaged ater knowing each other for only 3 or so weeks. I know...another big gasp. But -- at our ages then (25)...well, you know what you want and when it comes along...why wait?

5. I suck at housekeeping. If you want me to keep my house cleaned, well, we better plan a party. No, seriously...I try to keep it clean, but with two boys and the dog...it's a lost cause.

6. I've been bungee-jumping before. It was a dare back when I was single. This guy from church told me he would pay for it if I did it...so I did it! LOL!

7. It has been my dream to go to Australia since I was 16. I remember getting stationary from my friends to use when I make it over there. Hopefully I'll make it before I die...it's on my Bucket List. LOL!

8. I had my tubes tied the morning after I had my 2nd son, Micah. We decided we were done, and I figured I'd go ahead and get it done right then rather than waiting. I hurt more from that than I did the actual labor and delivery. No...we don't regret our decision.

Now here are the RULES for this tag:
1. Each blogger starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
4. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged and to read your blog.
5. For the recipients, leave a comment for the person who tagged you, so they can go and read your answers.

Okay...now for my 8 people.
Laura over at The Neil Family -- you better do this. LOL!
Kristie over at my crazy life
Kelleye over at Helleson Quest
Syndee over at Syndee's Space
April over at The Crazy Green Cheapskate
Michelle over at My Crazy Life with a Toddler
Vicky over at The World Around Me
Small Town Mommy

So, go ahead...divulge a little. Tell me more about yourselves so I can get to know you better...

The Infamous White Elephant Gift REVEAL

Okay, I promised that once the exchange was over I would reveal my lovely White Elephant Gift. So, without further ado...let me share what I wrapped up for one of friends to receive.

As I've mentioned, it took me some time to figure out what I wanted to take. But -- after rummaging through my bedroom, I finally found the perfect gifts. You see...Brian and I have been married for over 8 years, and back when I had my lingerie shower someone gave us some little edible goodies (I know Omi and Opa...way TMI -- too much information). Well, they were never used or opened. So, I decided what better way to get rid of something that was just taking up space. Well, why rummaging, I also found a Novelty Memory Game...just think positions. Again...TMI!

So, I gave away some edible undergarments and a positional memory game. And do you know what?!!? My gift was the HOT item. The first person that got it was pleased with it. And everyone was shocked that "sweet innocent Sherrie" would ever have such items. LOL! Have I ever mentioned that I'm supposedly the "naive prude" of the group? LOL! Well, it was now someone else's turn, and she decided to snatch up those gifts of mine. Then, someone else snatched them. And finally -- the 2nd person to have them snatched them back and was able to keep it since it was now "dead."

The party was lots of fun, and the gifts were a hoot. There was a dollar store angel, a hideous rose tealight holder, some bath gels (that were once mistaken as baby teethers...lol), an ugly Christmas pin, some Christmas candles, etc. I ended up with a set of Crystal hurricane candle holders. I didn't think they were that bad of a gift considering everything else I had to choose from. LOL!

Oh and the Christmas sweaters...it was like a flashback to the 80's. We all laughed at our attire, but not many pictures were taken. I did manage to take a picture of the lovely sweater that I adorned. So, here it is...

Enjoy the laughs!
