I hope that all of you mom's out there had a terrific Mother's Day. I especially hope that Omi and Grandma enjoyed their special days. Sorry we couldn't spend it with either of you, but know that you're both loved and adored each and every day.
All I asked for was perfume and flowers. Well, I woke up this morning to both. Brian filled a vase of beautiful flowers, and he got me TWO perfumes. I had told him to go pick out something since I have to wear something that works with his sensitive smell issues. You see...he is not fond of strong smells, and getting him into stores like Pier 1 Imports and Kirkland's is almost impossible. The smells run him out so quickly. So, off he went in search of a perfume that he could stand. :) He got Paris Hilton and Heiress by Paris Hilton. Now, I'm not a big fan of Paris Hilton and all her antics, but her perfumes smell really good. I'd never really taken the time to smell them before today, so I'm glad he did such a good job. So, kudos to him. He also got me a Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha this morning, and he brought home Outback take-out this evening.
How was your Mother's Day? Did you get anything special?

Now to the calling all runners...
You see, I'm not a runner. I never have been, and I never really thought I would want to be. And -- I'm not saying I want to be able to run a marathon anytime soon, but I'd love to be able to get on the treadmill and run if I wanted to. All I can really manage now is about an 1/8 of a mile at 5mph. Then, I have to take a break and go at it again when I get my breathing back in control.
So, what are your tips? Keep in mind, I'm not in good shape at all (hence the reason for wanting to run/walk), and my endurance right now is shot. What can I do to build up my running ability? It's my goal to get in 5 miles of walking/running daily. I know...quite ambitious for me, but I'm hoping to be successful.
So, my bloggy pals...help a non-runner out here. Give me some tips and advice. I look forward to hearing from all of you marathon runners. I also look forward to posting a success story at some point in the future. So, give it to me...

Sounds like a wonderful Mother's Day! I could definitely use a Starbucks about now, yum!
Just take your time! Start off with running one minute, then walk one minute. My dad used to always tell me to run light poles... run for four light poles, walk for four light poles. Gradually increase your run interval and decrease the walk interval!
Don't overdo it at first... that will turn you off of running faster than you can imagine!
Happy Mother's Day!
I don't consider myself a runner per say, but I run on the treadmill at the gym, I can only do 3miles but I just started a few months ago. I would slow your pace just a tad and run for 5 min, walk for 2 for 30 min. Up the running and pace part a little each week, eventually you won't need to stop to walk, and can run the whole 30 min. I also found that pushing past the part where you feel like you cant breath and you may collapse, really helps make it easier, you just have to push past it..try it. Hope that helps.
Sherrie, I must say that I think you had a WONDERFUL Mother's Day! Kudos to your husband for taking on the perfume counters to make your day so special!
I also think that your decision to begin exercising is awesome! You will feel so much better! My recommendation is to start out slow and work your way up (obviously). When I did WW years ago, they wanted just 20 minutes of exercise. If you can commit to that, you will be doing AMAZING!! Can't wait to hear how you are doing!!
Sounds like a nice Mother's Day! Running is hard - I haven't done it in a long time! But I do other things, and I find I just have to keep plugging away and day by day I get stronger and I can just push myself to do a little more!
Try Couch to K5. Google it. You can find lots of tips.
Tip 1 - When it starts to hurt, stay on for a bit longer. The pain will subside. I kept giving up every time it hurt. That did not work.
Tip 2 - Listen to music. If I don't have an iPod or something to keep me entertained, I won't last long at all.
I am not a runner, but I have similar goals. Recently I found a couple of training routines on the net.
This first one is the one I am doing. It will help you to build up to 2 miles of running. After that the site has some training schedules to build up for longer distances.

Here is a site with some more training schedules: http://coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/index.shtml
Good luck.
I do work in a school system.. but I have to work 12 months. =[ But the summer is better without the kids
I'm glad that you had a nice Mother's Day. I wear Paris Hilton's perfume sometimes too--I like it. I tell Joe that I'm "smelling like a whore heiress" and he laughs.
Uh, no advice on the running except don't do it. I don't run for anything, anyone, anytime. Maybe just walk fast, but that's it. :)
Sounds like you had a great day. I am impressed with the running. I should do better.
Sounds like a wonderful Mother's Day! I'm no runner, can't help you out there. But don't get me wrong, my twins know how to make this mommy move especially when they are on a mission of distract and conquer.
