*****Please note that there are days where I will post more than once. So, to find out all the latest happenings and "goings-on" in our family (or my random thoughts), be sure to scroll down.*****
We are continuing to stay on track so far, and we’re all looking forward to a break next week. Here’s how week 4 went…
Micah, Kindergarten
- Bible – We continued to learn about Adam & Eve and the fall of man. Micah finally finished coloring/cutting out his spiral snake. He memorized Romans 3:23 as well.
-
Phonics – This week Micah worked on the letter ‘e’ and the phonograms ‘-en’ and ‘-et.’ His sight words were ‘love, mom, dad, and at.’
Caleb, Fifth Grade
-
Bible – This week Caleb continued to read in Genesis, and he read about Isaac is Born, Hagar and Ishmael are Sent Away, and Abraham Offers Isaac. Here’s his interpretation of Abraham sacrificing Isaac.
-
Math – Caleb continues to work in his three books, and he’s focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and real-life math skills.
-
English – This week Caleb worked on avoiding run-ons, direct and indirect quotations, divided quotations, and outlining.
-
Test/Study Skills – This week we went back to dictionary skills, and Caleb focused on guide words.
Like I mentioned above, we have next week off. It’s a super busy week of anniversaries and birthdays, so we’re going to enjoy some celebrations.
I’ve also got to spend some time making sure Caleb has everything he needs to head off to Camp Twitch and Shout in three and a half weeks…he’s so ready to go.
We finished up week three of school last week; however, I didn’t have time to get this post up. So, here’s how week three went for us…
Micah, Kindergarten
- Bible – Our Bible story this week was on Adam & Eve and the fall of man. We read Genesis 3, and our Bible verse is Romans 3:23. Micah started working on coloring a spiral snake. Since he’s pretty OCD about his coloring, it’s taking him a good bit of time to color it just right.
- Phonics – This week Micah worked on the letters ‘h’ and ‘w.’ His sight words were “like, is, my, and it.” He read another book by BJU Beginnings titled Blue or Green.
- Poetry – The poem for this week was ‘All of Me.’ We used the poem to find our sight words, identify rhyming words, and identify commas.
- Math – This week we worked on same & different and one-to-one correspondence.
Caleb, Fifth Grade
- Bible – Caleb continued reading in Genesis, and he read about Abraham Entertains Angels and The Destruction of Sodom.
-
Math – Caleb continued to work in his three books. Since this is pretty much the same each week, I may leave this off of future weekly reviews.
-
English – This week Caleb worked on types of sentences, how to diagram commands and questions, and simple/compound sentences.
-
Test/Study Skills – This week Caleb worked on maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams. He learned about the compass rose, cardinal points, intermediate points, and he used those skills to complete several activities.
- Miscellaneous – Caleb spends time reading, working with Hot Dots, or playing educational iPad games daily while I work with Micah. So, I try to take pictures of him ‘working’ on occasion.
We’re continuing to enjoy our 2013-14 school year. We’re schooling this week, and then we’ll be enjoying a week off to celebrate anniversaries (our 13th and my parent’s 50th) and birthdays (Caleb’s 10th).
Despite all four of us being ‘under the weather’, we managed to finish up our second week of school. Here’s how week two went for us…
Micah, Kindergarten
- Bible – We continued learning about the days of creation. We learned about days five, six, and seven. The Bible verse was still Genesis 1:1.
Day Five – we sorted pictures of animals that swim and animals that fly. Micah then added fish to the water and birds to the sky.
Day Six – We glued a piece of aluminum foil in the middle to act as a mirror to show ‘us.’ Micah then added land animal stickers.
- Phonics – This week we worked on the letters ‘s’ and ‘n’. Our sight words were ‘I, can, me, and you.’ We also worked on the phonogram ‘-in.’ Micah also read his first book, Grandpa’s Bible (one of the BJU K readers).
- Poetry – Our poem this week was ‘Colors.’ We used the poem to find our sight words, identify the letters ‘s’ and ‘n,’ identify rhyming words, and identify commas.
Caleb, Fifth Grade
- Bible – This week Caleb continued reading in Genesis, and he read about the Tower of Babel, Abraham’s Journeys, Abraham and Lot, and God’s Covenant with Abraham. Here’s his depiction of the Tower of Babel story.
- Math – Caleb continued working in his three workbooks, and he focused on addition facts. We did some timed challenges to see how long it took him to go through the Hot Dots cards.
- English – This week Caleb worked on simple/complete predicates, diagramming subjects/predicates, compound subjects/predicates, and diagramming compound subjects and compound predicates.
- Test/Study Skills – Caleb worked on dictionary skills this week. We reviewed alphabetical order (first, second, and third letter alphabetizing).
Caleb also spent time reading. He made a goal to read 100 books for the Camp Twitch and Shout read-a-thon, and he had to finish that this week. He was successful and reached his goal.
Our second week was just as much fun as our first, and we’re looking forward to a fun-filled adventure next week, too. However, we are praying that the sickness that has invaded our house will exit with a quickness and not slow us down.
