Fourth Grade Week 2

We completed our second week of fourth grade on Thursday.  It’s still going really, really well.
Bible – Our Bible lesson this week was on “A Gentle Spirit.”  We read Titus 2:12-13 and Leviticus 19:17-18.
Latin – Caleb learned how to address a male and female teacher (magister and magistra respectively).  He learned that some of the consonants make different sounds in Latin, and he also learned 3 diphthongs (two letter pairs that make one sound).  His vocabulary words were gloria, Jesus, laudo, clamo, and caelum.
Vocabulary – This week’s lesson continued to focus on synonyms.  The words for the week were:  unfurl, vast, thaw, nimble, din, trophy, garment, eerie, chide, and fret.
English – This week Caleb reviewed all about sentences.  He reviewed that all sentences start with a capital letter and have an end mark.  He also worked on identifying declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences.
Reading – This week our read-aloud book was The Family Under the Bridge by Natalie Savage Carlson.
Math – This week Caleb worked on guessing the correct number and more fractions.  He took his test, and he’s now finished with the Level 200 Light Units.  We’ll be moving on to the Level 300 Light Units this upcoming week.
Exploration – Caleb continued to learn and read more about Atlantis, the Statue of Liberty, and the Eiffel Tower.  He colored a picture of the Eiffel Tower, and he completed some mini books on the Statue of Liberty and compiled them on a notebooking page.

I’m really happy with the way fourth grade is coming along, and I’m praying for continued success throughout the 2012-13 school year.  Smile
