Week 12 of Learning 2014-15

We actually finished up week 12 a few days ago, but I haven’t taken the time to post the review.  Here’s how it went…
Micah, First Grade Bible – Micah’s Bible lesson was on “My Bible Teaches Me Kindness,” and we read 2 Samuel 9:1-13 to accompany the lesson.
LLATL – Micah read another book for his program.  I’m telling you…it warms my heart to hear my children reading when they’re first starting.  It’s such a joy to sit back and think…”I did that…I taught him how to read.”  He’s really catching on and doing a GREAT job.  He also worked on the letters ‘u, q, z’ and the sight word ‘does.’   He worked on periods, capital letters, and adjectives as well.

Menu Plan November 2-8, 2014

Lately, it seems like I spend more time in the kitchen.  Brian was getting tired of taking sandwiches and yogurt to work, so he has now decided to start taking salads with chicken.  So, I prep salads and cook chicken every day.  In addition to the three meals each day, this just adds more kitchen work, so it seems I live in there now.  LOL!  Oh well…it’s all worth it for my family!
Here’s what’s cooking this week…
Sunday – Taco Soup
Monday – Brown Sugar Ham Steaks, Macaroni ‘n cheese, Veggies
Tuesday – Kielbasa, Potatoes, Veggies
Wednesday – Spaghetti, Salad, Biscuits
Thursday – YOYO
Friday – YOYO

Week Nine of Learning 2014-15

Well, we were doing so well at staying on track, and that all came to a halt last week.  We ended up not schooling for three of our scheduled days, so we’re now three days behind schedule.  However, the good news…I had planned to take off the week of October 13th, but now we’ll just take off the remainder of the week once we’ve completed the number of necessary days to be back on track.  The boys have probably forgotten we were to have that week off, anyway, so they’ll just be happy with however many days they actually do get.  Here’s how week nine went…
Micah, Kindergarten Bible – This week Micah’s lesson was on “God Gave Me My Bible,” and we read Jeremiah 36:1-32 to accompany his lesson.

Menu Plan September 28-October 4, 2014

Well, I tried to do minimal grocery shopping last week, but what I discovered is that it’s hard when you pack a lunch for your husband every day.  So, I have to go and buy the stuff needed for his work almost weekly because it’s hard to store that much food for two weeks (think tons of yogurt b/c he takes 2-4 a day).  I didn’t spend as much as usual, but it was still a trip to the store…LOL!  Here’s our plan for this week…
Sunday – YOYO
Monday – Parmesan Chicken Tenders, Pasta, Veggies
Tuesday – Meatloaf, Pasta, Veggies
Wednesday – Roasted Chicken, Pasta, Veggies
Thursday – YOYO
Friday – YOYO
Saturday – Beef Taquitos, Salad
It looks like we eat pasta with almost every meal, and that’s not far from the truth…LOL!  I need some more side dishes.  The boys don’t care for mashed potatoes, so it’s not something I make.  So, it’s either a side of pasta or rice, typically, served with some variety of steam veggies.  Any ideas for something else besides pasta and rice my blogging friends?

Reading – Caleb took his comprehension and vocabulary test over Brian’s Return by Gary Paulsen.  He then began reading The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss.  He read chapters 1-3 (he has read this book before, so hopefully it’ll be familiar once he gets into it).
Geography – Caleb learned all about Rhode Island.  He then studied for and completed a test over the first 13 states.  He had to recall the states in order of statehood, their capital city, two-letter postal abbreviation, and nickname.
