Week Nine of Learning 2014-15

Well, we were doing so well at staying on track, and that all came to a halt last week.  We ended up not schooling for three of our scheduled days, so we’re now three days behind schedule.  However, the good news…I had planned to take off the week of October 13th, but now we’ll just take off the remainder of the week once we’ve completed the number of necessary days to be back on track.  The boys have probably forgotten we were to have that week off, anyway, so they’ll just be happy with however many days they actually do get.  Here’s how week nine went…
Micah, Kindergarten Bible – This week Micah’s lesson was on “God Gave Me My Bible,” and we read Jeremiah 36:1-32 to accompany his lesson.
LLATL – This week Micah worked on the sight words ‘help, now, come, for.’  He also worked on reading aloud, comprehension, word meaning, making lists, rhyming words, etc.

Math – This week Micah worked on fact families, nickels, drawing with a ruler, ordering numbers, etc.
History – Micah continued to learn about “the beginning of history” this week.
Science – This week Micah learned about ferns, mosses, algae, and fungi.  Other than a few extra special “plant” activities, this concludes our study on plants.  Next, we’ll move onto Animals.
Caleb, Sixth Grade Bible – Caleb’s lesson this week was on “Jacob – A Changed Man,” and we read Genesis 37, 39-41 to accompany his lesson.
Math – This week Caleb worked on reducing fractions; adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators; adding and subtracting more than two fractions; multiplication and decimals; and multiplying whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100, and 1,000.
Reading – This week Caleb continued to read The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss.  He read chapters 4-8 and completed comprehension and vocabulary activities based on each chapter.
Geography – This week Caleb learned facts about Vermont and Kentucky.

Writing – Caleb completed his writing assignment from the last lesson which was a personal favorites poem.  He then began working on his next lesson which covers compound subjects and verbs.

Science – Caleb read the same information as Micah.
